About the project

TRANSMIC VET – Transforming micro-destinations through C-VET – is an Erasmus+ project aimed at strengthening the capacity of local actors to manage tourism in a more sustainable, collaborative and strategic way.

The project focuses on micro-destinations: small areas with a strong identity and unique potential for developing more balanced and resilient tourism models.

CONTEXT

Micro-destinations offer authentic cultural, environmental and social experiences, contributing to local development and community well-being. However, they often face structural challenges that limit their potential.

Local stakeholders are frequently fragmented and lack coordination, making it difficult to plan and manage tourism effectively. At the same time, tourism flows tend to be highly seasonal, creating pressure during peak periods and limiting economic sustainability throughout the year.

In addition, the adoption of digital tools and environmentally responsible practices is still limited, reducing competitiveness and slowing down the transition towards more sustainable tourism systems.

Despite these challenges, micro-destinations represent ideal environments to experiment with new governance models, thanks to their scale, strong community ties and flexibility.

OBJECTIVES

The general objective of the project is to contribute, through Continuing Vocational Education and Training (C-VET), to the empowerment of entrepreneurs, local policymakers and community leaders in micro-destinations. This will be achieved by enhancing their governance capacities, fostering collaboration and enabling sustainable tourism development.

Strengthening governance for sustainable tourism

To enhance the governance capacities of local policymakers and entrepreneurs in order to foster sustainable tourism management.

Supporting the digital transformation of tourism

To foster skills and practices supporting the digital transformation of tourism management in micro-destinations.

Enhancing branding, storytelling and adaptive strategies

To develop C-VET pathways that strengthen destination branding, digital storytelling and adaptive strategies for sustainable and seasonal tourism.

What is a micro-destination?

A micro-destination is a small, clearly defined tourism area within a larger destination, characterised by its own identity, local assets and authentic visitor experience.

These areas play an important role in redistributing tourism flows, reducing pressure on overcrowded destinations and strengthening local economies.

However, their limited size and resources can make it challenging to design and implement effective tourism strategies. Without proper planning, micro-destinations may face issues such as over- and under-tourism, environmental pressure and loss of local identity.

TRANSMIC VET works to support these territories in unlocking their full potential through skills, collaboration and innovation

Our approach

The project adopts a practical and collaborative approach based on Continuing Vocational Education and Training (C-VET).

Through training activities, peer learning and the development of practical tools, TRANSMIC VET supports stakeholders in acquiring new competences and applying them directly in their local contexts.

Particular attention is given to:

  • governance and stakeholder collaboration
  • digital tools and innovation
  • environmentally sustainable practices
  • long-term strategic planning
